Esquire asked a “crack panel of six industry insiders” to name their favorite new comedians of 2012. The breakdown between “insider” and “new comedian” is a bit mystifying (Amy Schumer in the former category, Tig Notaro in the latter? Whatever, Esquire), plus it’s a fucking slideshow, so don’t bother actually reading it. The important bits:

Aziz Ansari recommends the very funny Chelsea Peretti, who will be at Helium at the end of August. (Helium’s August lineup just kills it: Brian Posehn, Bruce Bruce, Maria Bamford, Todd Glass…)

And Chris Hardwick gives a shoutout to former Portland favorite Ron Funches. Three weeks ago we would’ve said: Congrats Ron! But you’re dead to us now.

Alison Hallett served nobly as the Mercury's arts editor from 2008-2014. Her proud legacy lives on.
