I just got off the phone with Bridgetown Comedy Festival organizer Andy Wood, who tells me that a new standup comedy club is scheduled to open in Portland at the end of July.

The club’s owner also has a place in Philadelphia called the Helium Comedy Club, which Wood tells me has a reputation for “booking good comics and treating them well.” The venue will be located on the second floor of the Chelsea Ballroom at 9th and Hawthorne.

Alison Hallett served nobly as the Mercury's arts editor from 2008-2014. Her proud legacy lives on.

  1. As long as this theater doesn’t book anyone that Harvey’s would book, then I’m all for it. We really should try to get some kind of scene going here, a la Comedy Death-Ray in LA or Invite Them Up in NYC.
