Tomorrow’s Free Comic Book Day—go here to check out the books that’ll be at various comics shops, just sitting there for the taking. As usual, Portland’s comics shops are on it: Just about all of ’em are participating, including Excalibur and Future Dreams, and some have special events and signings going on.
• Bridge City‘s got signings with Matt Holm and Vinny Navarrete from 11-1 pm
• Cosmic Monkey‘s got Shannon Wheeler and Zachary Baldus (who drew this snazzy Kitty Pryde, which is currently hanging in my Mercury office) from 12-3 pm
• Floating World‘s got a couple of free local indie books, as well as “a free dollar comic for every dollar spent at the register”
• The Portland, Beaverton, and Milwaukie Things from Another World stores have a slew of signings, with everyone from Kelly Sue DeConnick to Steve Lieber to Terry and Rachel Dodson to (CONFLICT OF INTEREST ALERT! CONFLICT OF INTEREST ALERT!) Todd Herman and Herb Apon, two guys I worked with on a comic book with this one time, not to mention Brandon Seifert, Lukas Ketner, Jeremy Barlow, Ron Chan, Paul Tobin, stormtroopers, pirates, and… and… here. Just look here.
For some reason this makes me think of NAMBLA sponsoring “Free Puppies and Candy Day”.
