Portland police have cracked the case of the hipster bandit!
The bandit has been on a bank-robbing spree around Portland since this summer, earning his moniker after a witness to an August robbery at Albina Community Bank told police the robber “looked like a hipster.”
On Friday, December 7, the hipster struck again, when he robbed the Consolidated Community Credit Union on NE 20th and Sandy, pedaling away into the Kerns neighborhood on a bike. Portland police descended on the neighborhood and located 40-year-old Harvie Dale Oglesby III, who they say matched the description of the robber and have “evidence from the bank robbery” on his person.
Oglesby is now in custody, authorities are planning to prosecute him for five bank and credit union robberies this year. Meanwhile, we now have a definitive, legal definition for what a hipster looks like.

Did he hit the pretentious name lottery, or what? Maybe he really is a hipster.
Perhaps one day they’ll crack the Hipster genome.
Damn…times are tough, yo!
I’m not planning to rob any banks until I at least have a Segway to flee on.
Bahahahahahaha…that’s really I have to say. Aside from the stupid name, not dorky or pretentious looking enough to earn the hipster badge
Hipster? He looks more like Linda Richman from Coffee Talk.
Escaping by bike, before it becomes cool. But seriously, it’s an interesting work around to the common practice of running license plates.
I hope he used the bike lane….:)
Too old to be a hipster.
He seems to have been a member of the Architectural Heritage Center in recent years, so that’s at least a little hip.
He got caught because he was taking too long cueing up his Nilsson record to provide the proper getaway music.
@ rich23:
ha! — i was just listening to The Walkmen’s version of his ‘Pussy Cats’ album. but i ain’t no hipster.
I thought he has a striking resemblance to our very own s.mirk. Amirite?
Sorry, ujfoyt, but I think people who write “amirite” should be “betinwifastikintilbludi.”
Do hipsters become yuppies when they reach a certain age? Has this been made into a Portlandia skit yet? Because I am totally calling dibs.
