I arrived back in Portland last night from a conference in Las Vegas and in addition my happiness about being back in the land of simple pleasures (like sidewalks, recycling, and beer under $8), I received the good news that police believe they have caught the masturbator who was on the loose in SE Portland!
Police arrested 39-year-old Pedro Prieto-Enriquez on one count of public indecency. Police allege that Prieto-Enriquez is the same man who jerked off in front of Hosford Middle School girls as they walked to school last week, following one girl for a block in his car.
Now seems like a good time to mention the current debate over Measure 73, the Kevin Mannix measure on this November’s ballot that asks voters to approve stiffer mandatory sentences for sex offenders and drunk drivers. I think it would definitely surprise some voters to know that a coalition of sexual assault victims groups are actually against the measure. They note that just throwing people in prison for more years doesn’t help solve sexual violence—attacking the creeps as a state means funding sexual assault prevention and survivor services.
You paid for beer in Vegas? Don’t they pretty much give it away at every casino?
