Ever wondered what the incarceration centers of America—the prison capital of the world— looked like from space? That’s what I thought. A New York University graduate student decided to compile satellite images (thanks to ol’ Google Maps) of the nearly 5,000 national prisons to get a better grasp of the massive system. His site shows 700 of the best ones— nestled between mountains, on tiny islands, in barren deserts and beyond. Have a gander.
