Ladies and Gentlemen of the Internet,

Let it hereby be known that I, Mercury Senior Editor Erik Henriksen, and my esteemed colleague, Mercury Music Editor Ned Lannamann, have made a GENTLEMAN’S WAGER.

The wager, in question, shall be settled on the 10th of January, 2013, when the nominations for the 85th Annual Academy Awards are announced.

THE SUBJECT OF THE WAGER

A devoted aficionado of all things 007, Mr. Lannamann believes that Skyfall, the 23rd James Bond film, will be nominated for Best Picture. I do not. As of now, the time of this gentleman’s wager, neither of us has seen Skyfall.

WHAT IS BEING WAGED, IN ADDITION TO OUR HONOR

One (1) 750ml bottle of “actor, musician, entrepreneur and spiritualist” Dan Aykroyd’s Crystal Head Vodka, a rare and mysterious elixir that is filtered through diamonds and comes in a bottle shaped like a human skull. The average price of one 750ml crystal skull-shaped bottle filled with Crystal Head Vodka: $49.99.

THE DIE HAS BEEN CAST, AND THERE ARE NO TAKE-BACKS
Which means I shall now allow you, learned ladies and gentlemen, to let it be known who you predict shall win this GENTLEMAN’S WAGER.

With honor and distinction, Erik Henriksen served as the executive editor of the Portland Mercury from 2004 to 2020. He can now be found at henriksenactual.com.

  1. Well, the vodka is filtered through “Herkimer diamonds.” Which is fine, because the two of you are, at best, Herkimer gentlemen.
