Have you had it yet with the rain, the cold, the friggin’ ice storms? Now is the perfect time to break your penny jar and take off to a warm locale. But you ain’t no Rockefeller, right? That’s why Brandi’s mid-winter travel suggestions are hot and cheap!
– Hawaii: “Especially if you get a package, because you can get discount airfare, discount hotel, and a discount car if you need one.”
– The Cook Islands: “It’s in the South Pacific. The airfare is about $1,000, but once you get there everything costs about one third as much as it does in Hawaii.”
– Fiji: “It’s kind of a ‘your own private island’ thing. You stay in thatched huts with no electricity. I stayed in one for $20 a night, and anther more rustic one for like $10. And that included breakfast.”
– Mexico: “The Playa del Carmen is pretty hot right now. And the prices are lower than in Cancun.”
– Disneyland: “Kids are flying free right now, it’s warmer there than it is here, and you can always get a good package.”
John Paul
From Beulahland
118 NE 28th
John does double duty. Not only does he serve up pints behind the bar, he also comes over to the other side every Thursday for the Lo Fi DJ night, so you know he doesn’t just rely on the jukebox for his picks. Here’re his top five songs:
– “Animal” by Dead Moon (Livevil): “Sends shivers down my spine every time.”
– “Shiver” by Giant Sand (Chore Of Enchantment): “I can’t stop listening to that album.”
– “Beulah Land” by Mississippi John Hurt (Today!): “That guy rips.”
– “Can You Get to That” by Funkadelic (Maggot Brain): “The harmony, it’s the harmony!”
– “I Got A Right” by The Stooges: “An outtake from some session [but also available on Pure Lust-ed.] that’s just bad ass.”
