MUSIC—Grimes’ 2012 album Visions was fan-freaking-tastic. It sounded like a electropop kewpie doll from the alien planet Helium, or like Aphex Twin hired a chorus of singing mice. It was great and very strange. And now three years later, Grimes (AKA Claire Boucher) has promised a surprise album release this month—so expect delightful new oddities at her live show. FILMS—Bring on the scary movies at this Grindhouse Film Fest double feature! Mother’s Day (1980) is classic slasher: Three women go camping in the woods and get kidnapped by manic hillbillies. Madman Marz (1982) involves more chasing through the woods; this time it’s kids at summer camp and a crazed serial killer with a giant razor-sharp axe. SHELBY R. KING
