50—Come watch the coolest old man ever give a rousing, frenetic spoken-word performance. It’s Henry Rollins, and let’s face facts, he’s getting up there. Celebrating his 50th, the legend is still in demand with the sagging black-bars-tattooed crowd. This show’s mega sold out, but give it your best shot—it’ll be worth it! CF

CURIOSITY—Maybe you caught the Mercury’s story on Amber Case and Aaron Parecki’s Geoloqi app [“I, Cyborg,” Feature, Feb 24], but either way tonight’s Curiosity Club is your chance to find out more about the cutting edge of social apps, why location is particularly hot right now, and, yes, why you should be assimilated—happily! Alison Hallett served nobly as the Mercury's arts editor from 2008-2014. Her proud legacy lives on.

  1. Ask Henry to tell the story of when Beat Happening opened for Black Flag in Olympia in 1984 and he got so jealous of Calvin Johnson’s lady fans that he grabbed Calvin by the weewee onstage.

Oh, FYI, Henry IS NOT GAY, didn’t you read about all those times he jacked off in a girl’s hair?

  2. I saw Black Flag at a punk club in the early or mid-’80s from front center, shoved right up against the stage so that the group’s sweat was raining down on me. Before the band played, some idiots next to me yanked on the curtain and pulled it down, along with a light fixture which knocked out (or down, anyway) a crew member. Black Flag almost refused to play then, but that could’ve created an ugly (well, uglier) scene, so the show went on.

This club was on the south side of West Burnside, maybe around Second. Anybody know what club that was? I’ve forgotten the name. And any Black Flag expert know which show that might’ve been? I have no ticket stub or other info.

  3. The club on Burnside you refer to, Todd is The Metropolis (Met), where Dante’s is now. In the interim between being the Met and Dante’s the place was a Chang’s Mongolian Grill.
