News from TriMet says walk and bike to Obama, fuckers.
Anyway, this just in from the public transit agency:
When we are informed by the Secret Service, we will halt all MAX service as the president arrives and departs the Oregon Convention Center. During the event, MAX will not serve the Convention Center stop and the Line 6 bus stop in front of the building will be closed.
The Oregonian has already noted that Obama will bring with him the traffic jam to end all traffic jams as he arrives at rush hour tomorrow. Also, bags are apparently not allowed inside? So maybe walk or bike and stash all your possessions in a shrub outside the convention center? I have no idea what thousands of Portlanders are going to do with their backpacks, etc, but I assume it will be chaos?
In addition to traffic, five more things to expect from Wednesday’s Obama rally.
Update! If you want to skip trying to make it to the rally at all, you can stream it online here. We’ll also be blogging and posting photos during the whole event so…. yeah. Stay home.

I was in NY a couple of weeks back and they were barricading streets around MoMA for an incoming presidential motorcade. Given that regular traffic in that city makes our worst traffic look desirable… I’ll just say I’m glad I was on foot.
Gawd, this is turning into a clusterfuck. I wanted to go, but this just sounds like a huge pain in the ass.
I would suggest that stuffing parcels behind shrubs outside the convention center will probably be frowned upon by security tomorrow.
Get it done today, folks!
I’d imagine this won’t be until after everyone has arrived. Doors open at 4 and close at 6. So people riding MAX over will be traveling before 4pm and he’s prolly not coming in then until after 6pm.
I’ll watch everyone’s backpacks, but I charge a fee of “I get to take one item of my choosing from each bag”.
…because apparently anyone who is capable of walking the one and a half blocks from the Rose Quarter Max stop to the Convention Center Max stop can’t be a terrorist.
If I want to see a spineless man offering platitudes, I’ll dig up an old Mr. Rogers episode.
I’m told the OCC will have DOZENS of places to lock your bike.
shouldn’t matter. if you’re not already there hours before Obama, you’re not getting in. and he’ll be out of there & gone by the time most people fight their way to the door. so it really shouldn’t matter, but no doubt fail will occur.
@seanpdx: Mr Rogers was a well decorated war veteran and doesn’t deserve the pejorative “spineless”.
Actually, I should have said a highly decorated war veteran.
I thought he was pretty well decorated, actually.
Yeah, you shoulda seen the clusterfuck that was Joe Biden at Pearson Air Museum in the ‘couver today. Obama will be fifty times that, and everything will be hella stupid in the near vicinity.

What’s up with tickets? I received a couple of emails about RSVP’s which I did…but there wasn’t anything mentioned about tickets. How do we actually get in?

Next election, I will vote for any presidential candidate–regardless of political affiliation or world view or philosophy–that opts to take the MAX from the airport to town like the rest of us fucking normal people do.
Yeah, because that’s reasonable, Martin…
Yes: imagine if the Max line from PDX to the OCC was shut down for three hours, minimum. Imagine how well that would go over.
