It has been a weird week, here is a story to make you feel a little bit better.
A vast building in McAllen, Texas, was once home to a Wal-Mart — but no longer. When the discount superstore moved to a larger location, it left behind a vast empty building. The community took advantage of the space and converted the warehouse-like building into a public library.
The size of more than two football fields, the McAllen Public Library is the largest single-story library in the country.
And here is a video of some kittens wearing tiny hats.

Actually this bums me out. Wal-Mart already sells books, so when you think about it this building was all set and probably didn’t need more of them. And now the building doesn’t have lawn chairs and other goodies for sale. I feel like one of the benefits of Wal-Mart is that it sells lots of stuff. But libraries only lend a few things (books, dvds). Where’s the variety? Additionally, Wal-Marts have greeters who say hi to you when you walk through the door. Does this library? Doubt it. Budget’s probably too slim.
I tried doing a search to find out if this Walmart closed because the workers tried to organize. I could not verify it. Does anyone know why it closed?
The article says it closed because it wasn’t large enough to suit their needs. So they moved to a new, larger location.
