Mount Angel Oktoberfest
For four days out of the year, the town of Mount Angel essentially transforms itself into Little Germany, full of lederhosen, tuba music, sausages, and an absolutely astounding amount of beer of all kinds and varieties, to be drank out of all sorts of steins, mugs, cups and boots. Plus there’s other attractions, including weiner dog races, a car show, dancing, live music, and much more.

A Caribbean dinner inspired by Chef Aaron’s Cuban roots, with the entirety of the proceeds benefitting Black Lives Matter PDX.

Oregon Fermentation Festival
The magic of letting things get old and taste different (and/or mind-altering) is celebrated with a day-long festival on Sauvie Island, with a maker’s marketplace, a DIY pickling station, workshops, presentations, an ambrosia garden (like a beer garden, but with cider, mead, and wine in there, too) and plenty of fermented foods.

11th Annual Summer in September
The calendar may say the season is over, but this is Portlandโsometimes it stays summery all the way into November. So why not embrace it with Meals on Wheels’ annual festival, centered around a Creole-style jambalaya and ribs feast, with live entertainment from Speaker Minds, BlowFrogz, Elite, and DJ Doc Rock providing the soundtrack.

Harvest Festival
The People’s Food Co-op hosts their biggest party of the year, Harvest Festival, a farmer’s market and street fair with live music, local craft vendors, food, cooking demos, beer garden and more. Bring canned goods from home for the harvest swap, and a light colored t-shirt to take advantage of the fest’s indigo dyeing station.

The Abbey Oktoberfest
Lots of places are bringing a little bit of Germany to the Pacific Northwest, but the Abbey is one of the few that isn’t just dedicating a day or two to drinking, dancing, and sausage-y silliness, they’re going full Oktoberfest, running a variety of events (all family-friendly, too!) at their NW 23rd location from Sept 16 to Oct 2nd. Stammtisch 2016 Oktoberfest
It’s the time of year where glass boots and lederhosen start springing up out of the ground and taking over city blocks like some sort of sausage-y invasive species. Stammtisch’s third annual celebration of this season includes a barbecue, games, live German music, giant pretzels, and over 10 Oktoberfest biers to enjoy all weekend long, with special ceremonial tappings throughout the weekend.

Polish Festival

Umi Organic and Broth Bar team up for a first-come-first-served fall pop-up series, pairing bone broths by Salt Fire & Time’s Tressa Yellig with Umi co-founder Lola Millholland’s noodle expertise to create original ramen flavors making good use of the Pacific Northwest’s bounty of local produce and vegetables.

Portland Night Market
The Industrial District is transformed into the kind of bustling, busy, brightly lit street market you see in movies where the director wants you to know you’re visiting a strange, magical place. Except said magical place is in Portland’s Industrial District for two nights, and features over 175 of Portland’s best makers and creators, as well as some of its best food, drink, and music, too.

13th Annual Hood River Hops Fest
Taking place on 5th and Columbia, right between Double Mountain and Full Sail’s breweries, the Hood River Hops Fest features over 40 breweries showcasing over 60 fresh hop beers, as well as a few hop ciders and some local wines to go along with local food options and arts and crafts vendors, all underscored by a steady stream of live music.

Buckman-Kerns Brewfest & Block Party
Another year, another chance to close down the street in front of East Burn, invite a bunch of breweries to set up, and share special seasonal beers, put a couple friends in the dunk tank, listen to some live music from local musicians, win raffle prizes, eat heartily, and help benefit the Children’s Cancer Association.

Portland Fresh Hop Beer Fest
Beer is a staple in Portland. Hoppy beer is also a staple in Portland. Fresh-hopped beer is an ephemeral thing, arriving only during hops harvest season, with its piney, citrusy taste and delicate fizz. Beer festivals abound in Oregon, but the Portland Fresh Hops Beer Fest is the only fresh hoppy one at Oaks Park, where you can get drunk and go on amusement park rides. Wheeeeee! SHELBY R. KING
