I’ve been invited onto a pair of panels at the local Society of Professional Journalists chapter’s spring conference, over at the University of Oregon’s White Stag campus. You can pay to attend and eat food. And I won’t be angry if you write “blah, blah, blah, blah,” while I’m talking.
Ned Lannamann: “Yes, yes, there is a very important Blazers game, but it pales in comparison to the ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL Ear Candy show tonight at Mississippi Studios. It’s free and BOAT and the Comettes are coming down from Seattle to play. They are both perfect. That’s what I’m doing, and you can, too. The rest of my weekend is a little up in the air, but you should probably spend the rest of your weekend at the Know: They’re having their first-ever afternoon matinee show tomorrow as part of the PDX Punk Family Circus, and Sunday night they’re hosting Radioactivity, Suspicious Beasts, and the Estranged, which will be insane.”
Courtney Ferguson: “I’m going to a friend’s party on a sunny patio tonight in the Hollywood District—down a couple beers, have a couple laughs. Then I’ll hit up some garage and yard sales tomorrow morning in Irvington—don’t buy any of the shit I want to buy! I’d also like to get on the Springwater Corridor for some outdoor roller skating, if the rain gods will allow. Then I’m going to catch a movie on Sunday—either The Lego Movie at the Laurelhurst or Under the Skin or The Grand Budapest Hotel (again) at the Hollywood.”
Wm. Steven Humphrey: “I love fun, I love pop, and I (formerly) loved Seattle… I still do… kinda… it’s complicated. Anyway, I’m planning on hitting tonight’s FREE Mercury Ear Candy event with energetic Seattle popsters BOAT and the Comettes! On Saturday, thank god I don’t have to waste my money on seeing the abysmal Amazing Spider-Man 2… so I’m going to do something more entertaining. Like mow the lawn. Ooh! Or maybe go to Free Comic Book Day… wait, what’s that? I should buy something? Never mind!! (Jeez, I’m just kidding!)”
Marjorie Skinner: “I’m going to swing by the Quick Study presentation at the new Gladys Bikes before heading to a private party for “creatives who party” (I know, I hate me too). Tomorrow I plan to get my vegetable garden in order and pet goats at the Mississippi Studios Portland City Fair. Sunday’s all about friends and grillin’, rain or shine.”
