2014 has been a rather bang-up one for independent retail in Portland. A healthy clutch of new spots opened up (West End Select Shop, North of West, Seven Sisters, SIX/SEVEN…), and old favorites expanded into additional or bigger/better locations (Tender Loving Empire, Stand Up Comedy, Frances May, Nationale…) It’s always an ebb and flow, though, so as we transition into the new year it’s also time to say goodbye to a couple quality shops, too:
Yo Vintage! lost its space (and owner Sarah Radcliffe has a baby on the way), so they’ll be reverting to their online-only origins for the near future. “I’ve had a look for other retail spots around town, but can’t find anything we love (we had one month’s notice!!). I don’t want to rush into anything and know something else will come up,” says Radcliffe. Meanwhile, the shop’s last day will be Jan 3, when they’ll open at 10 am for a one-day-only mega-sale where everything is 40-80% off.

- Yo Vintage!
- Yo! Down for the count, but still kicking.
Meanwhile Winn Perry is closing up at the end of this month in order to put “a greater focus on creating our own products manufactured in and around our hometown of Portland, Oregon,” which certainly sounds promising. They too will maintain their e-commerce functions, and in the meanwhile select clothing and accessories are marked down by 30% in-store.
C’est la vie!
