So, you know that Seth Aaron of Portland Vancouver is one of the big names at this year’s Portland Fashion Week shows, right? And that, weirdly, he will also be joined by two other alumni from his winning season of Project Runwayโ€”Jay Sario and Jonathan Joseph Petersโ€”on the Oct 9 show? And that his collection is inspired by PFW sponsor SolarWorld? Yep. Well, today the first look has been trotted out for the oodles of press he’s going to attract to the rest of this year’s event, featuring many other talented designers who have the disadvantage of never having been nationally televised. Right? (Right?) Okay, so:

So… what do you think?* (If it helps, those are solar panels she’s posing in front of.) A couple more shots after the break.

  1. Solar panels sure aren’t cheap. I wonder if his inspiration came before or after SolarWorld agreed to lend them out? Think this is a genuine effort, or paid product placement?

  2. He came on board after SolarWorld. From a July press release:

“The theme of the three-way partnership is โ€œSolar Is the New Black.โ€ Portland Fashion Week (PFW) and SolarWorld, the showโ€™s renewable-energy sponsor, previously announced they would assemble the showโ€™s fashion runway from the companyโ€™s new, black photovoltaic panels.”

  3. Product placement is what it’s about for Solarworld. Seht Aaron must be an afterthought because it’s the runway with their panels they want to show. Placing their product at PFW isn’t very good exposure but it’s very cheap and they have little to lose.
