Growing up, I was a wee bit obsessed with Escape to Witch Mountain. My sister and I would race home from school to fire up the old Betamax to watch the scene where Tony and Tia wander around their new playroom in Daddy Warbucks’ mansion. Remember the ice cream parlor and Winky the Cat’s tricked-out cat room? So the purpose of this post: Where can I get a replica of Tia’s AWESOME starcase? It had sparkly stars on it and a hidden map. I desperately want one.

Check it out here at the four minute mark:

Aaaaaw, Winky the Cat’s so cute! And so is that effin’ starcase!

So it looks like the remake Race to Witch Mountain with The Rock is severely lacking in friendly bears, upsidedown helicopters, and flying RVs. And it looks like a GPS unit has replaced the starcase, which went the way of the Betamax. But according to IMDB, the old Tony and Tia have cameos. It’s in theaters next Friday.

Anyway… where the hell can I get that thing?

  1. Seeing as it’s Cat Friday, some posts about cats would be nice. Bonus points for pictures of cats. Thank you for your time.

  2. I have been looking myself for many, many years. I’ve searched the Internet since I’ve had access – which was the late 90s. No one that I’ve ever been able to find has made one or mentioned it. The original is still in the Di$ney Archives – according to the ESCAPE TO WITCH MOUNTAIN DVD commentary. I know that the Archives can tell you who manufactured it, but who knows if they are still in business. The best bet would be to call the Archives and find out if they still have the designs and if copies are available. Then we could try and find a manufacturer.

Anyway, I’d love to get my hands on one. I’m a grown man, but the film has always meant a lot to me. And I have a little girl now that would be adorable with a Star Case!
Let me know if you track anything down.
