IF PORTLAND had a Page Six, it would’ve definitely covered this party. It was former Mercury fashion columnist and managing editor Marjorie Skinner’s “retirement” party at Archipelago Gallery, which turned into an impromptu fashion show featuring some of Marjorie’s favorite looks from Portland’s best designers. I know Marjorie wellโ€”I interned for her soon after moving to Portland five-plus years ago. In fact, my first assignment was transcribing her interview with Portland’s second Project Runway winner, Gretchen Jones (who was also in attendance at the party).

Marjorie’s so-called “retirement” is mostly a joke, as she won’t be spending her days eating bonbons and lunching. But she worked at the Mercury for nearly 15 yearsโ€”a job she basically started right out of Reed Collegeโ€”so yeah, it’s time for her to try something new! But don’t worry, she’ll still be writing, producing, and taking in all the fashion shows. We’ll miss her perspective at the paper, but her keen eye will still be around town. And we have one hell of a party to remember her by.
