The comment about the Rose City Rollers hosting championships twice is incorrect. 2015 champs were held in St. Paul MN. 2016 champs were held in Portland, OR. Both 2015 and 2016 WFTDA championships were won by Rose City against Gotham, from NY, NY.
You're clearly not a sports writer and probably barely a fan, but at least if you're going to call yourself a journalist you might want to learn fact checking. Rose City Rollers did win two years running. Both years they beat out teams from all over the world including the number 1 team in the world, Gotham, from NY. Portland had the honor of hosting WFTDA Championships this year but last year they were held in MN.
The Rose City Rollers All-Stars are among the hardest-working athletes in the world, and they won two championships in a row through pure effort, grit, and dedication. Before they won the 2015 Championship (hosted in St. Paul, MN, not in Portland), the Gotham Girls from New York had been on a five-year winning streak. Both the Rose City Rollers and the Gotham Girls deserve nothing but admiration for their athleticism and ingenuity. The implication that their win is "suspicious" is not only uninformed, it is damaging to a nonprofit organization that relies on sponsorships and a growing fan base to bring a stellar amateur sport to women and girls across the globe. Perhaps you meant your comment in good fun, but you may not have considered the damage you might do. The Mercury has historically been a friend to roller derby, which has to work much harder than other sports to be taken seriously. I hope you will reconsider your comments.
Alex, Would you make the same flagrant statement about the UConn women's basketball team, the Patriots, or even the Yankees having back to back wins? It is obscene and disrespectful.
You need to edit the statement about Rose City Rollers hosting the championships two years in a row. It is completely wrong; a lie. I can contact your editor to assist you if it's too difficult for you to figure out on your own.
Hey, Alex, you read the first four comments here, one of whom may have been referring to something else in your article entirely, replied to the pointing out of your error and some rather valid concerns pretty flippantly, then proceeded to mock their mostly thoughtful replies on Twitter.
Since then, you've amended what you have to say about the Rose City Rollers, but haven't apologized for your errors in judgement or fact.
Maybe you could at least delete your name calling tweets? You know, to show how thoughtful, cool, and legitimate you are?
And this guy is supposedly a "comedian"? Can't believe I read all of that. A stoned 14 year old could have done better, and they probably wouldn't have done the whiny little girl "comment on my own article" routine either.
another bubble is the one where they tell you peace is war, war is peace. That is the bubble the author is in. Npr, nyt, msm pushing the war mongering clinton, while at the same time convincing you Trump, the candidate who was against the Iraq war, and wants peace, is the bad guy. They convince you he is racist, when he never said or did anything racist, to the contrary. While Hillary funds wars that kill thousands of middle eastern people, and support policies like nafta that hurt black people. Thats the bubble your in bro. Funny thing is the people you like such as Clinton arent even in your bubble, they control your bubble.
