Critic’s note: This occasional entry is about stuff I eat or drink that you should eat or drink, too. It may be about items that are locally made, or maybe not, but you’ll be able to find them in town. And you should.

Jesus Christ, cookies are amazing. You can suck on your macarons, and forget about your dumb bubble crepes—I kick it old school chocolate chip all damn day. And night.

Now, you can too: From Thursday to Sunday nights, After Dark Cookies is baking oven-hot cookies for eaters of all stripes, including standard, vegan, gluten free, and even homemade dog treats, and delivering them to your front door. Gooey and of notable size, each cookie costs $2.50 and up.

I love the oatmeal chocolate chip, which is by definition the best cookie of all time, but their inventive flavors like chai, almond and orange chocolate, and bacon-studded cookies are all damn satisfying, especially at midnight. Milk, pints of Cloud City ice cream, and cold brew are also available.

Owners Julia Baldwin, 32, and Richard Kotulski, 35, just celebrated their second anniversary delivering cookies to hungry sugar-lovers. The married couple, raised in Portland but fresh back from a stint on the East Coast, despaired about a lack of cookie delivery options. After pot became legal, they rushed into the fray, and have been growing ever since. For a short time, After Dark overlapped with ANOTHER late-night cookie delivery, Coop’s Cookies, but that biz folded, and I stupidly thought late-night cookies in Portland were no more.

Check them out at afterdarkcookies.com if you’re in the mostly Southeast and waterfront-adjacent delivery area, and enjoy. You’re also welcome to order a box delivered to my house—promise I won’t get mad. ANDREA DAMEWOOD
