Mark your calendar. Send that e-mail to your boss about your fake dentist appointment. Boke Bowl, the monthly ramen pop-up, is taking over the Oba kitchen for lunch service on February 28th from 11:30 to 1:30. I haven’t made it to any of their meals yet, but last month’s dinner at the Bijou Cafe drew rave reviews (you can read about the menu here). Along with some innovative ramen options (fried chicken and pulled pork!), I’m salivating over the brussels sprout salad and pickle plate pictures on facebook.

This is their foray into lunch service, and I expect the line will be out the door. If you can, get there early… Boke Bowl doesn’t take reservations.

  1. When oh when will they just open a restaurant already? There is a dearth of places in Portland to find ramen with a veggie or pescetarian broth (if I’m wrong about that, for the love of god let me know). I’ve wanted to try this but the relatively high prices (I was quoted something like $22 for a dinner, which granted was some kind of multicourse or all-you-can-eat affair, but really I just wanted one bowl of soup) and legendary crowds are a deterrent. Someplace I could actually just go and have a quiet lunch on a weekday without having to take the whole afternoon off of work is something I would be all over.
