It’s May, which means Oregon Wine Month is in full swing. Much of the activity is happening in wine country but there are also plenty of events in town. More than 100 Portland restaurants and bars are doing wine flights and special glass pours (there’s a full list here, but for something different, try AD Beckham at Quaintrelle, Ovum at Ned Ludd and Cowhorn at Oba). Winemaker dinners also feature—two that promise to be exceptional are Verdigris’ hook up with St Reginald Parish wines (four courses for $65) and the talented Pam Walden of Willful Wines will be pouring at a collaborative dinner at Quaintrelle (four courses for $75).
Memorial Day weekend traditionally kicks off wineries’ summer tasting season—in town, on Saturday 27, SE Wine Collective will be hosting their Open House party, Vinlandia, featuring 11 onsite winemakers (including Division, James Rahn and Stedt). Winery chef Althea Grey will be offering a version of Bibimbap, a Korean beef rice bowl. It always sells out so get tickets in advance ($25 from here). Also worth a stop on the same day is Urban Crush, another urban winery in the southeast, which features the excellent D’Anu and Angel Vine wines ($15).
