According to the Beaverton Valley Times, the four-year-old Hooters location on Beaverton-Hillsdale Hwy closed its doors last Sunday with very little notice. The employees were told of the development on the day of the closure during a “team meeting.” They have been given the option to move to positions at the Jantzen Beach Hooters location.

From the BVT:

Art Tinajero, vice president for marketing for franchise company HootWinc LLC in Oceanside, Calif., said the decision to close the restaurant was made “over time and analysis of the market we serve.”

I’m curious about that market. The only Hooters I’ve eaten in was in Boise, Idaho, where I suffered acute cognitive dissonance while watching entire families, with young children, dine in the presence of buxom, lap-sitting waitresses and cat-calling men. Apparently the family/creepy guy market just couldn’t support more than one Hooters in the region.

I do feel for the 40+ employees who worked at the Beaverton location. Imagine having to drive from Beaverton to Jantzen Beach in order to keep your paycheck and benefits. Does that even make sense with gas prices the way they are?

What about the Beaverton Hooters servers who decide the commute isn’t worth it? On one hand you’re no longer required to feign interest in your customers or don that deplorable short-short/pantyhose/scrunchy sock/tennis shoe combo. On the other hand, not having work in this economy is disasterous.

In terms of the employees, here’s hoping the commute is as painless as possible, or that the unemployment is brief. But as far as Hooters is concerned: Good riddance.

  1. Speaking for the creepy guy market on behalf of Al M and Horse Shit Guy, this is distressing, though I agree that it’s a sad day for the employees.

  2. The two times I actually ate there the food was deplorable. I went back the second time as I thought I may have got them on a bad day as they are/were famous for their buffalo wings. It was horrible the second time as well. Hell a bag of frozen Tyson chicken wings is better than what I got that day. The girls were pretty cute, but not so cute that I ever went back again. Too bad all the folks lost their jobs, however you can get crummy wings and burgers anywhere, so it is no shock they are now out of business.

  3. I went out there almost once a month because they hosted the UFC fights for free. There’d always be a group of at least 5, up to 10 guys that’d go and spend quite a bit on food and beer. A few months back, they stopped hosting the fights because 1) the customers that came to the fights didn’t come back between fights, and 2) they wanted to steer towards a more family oriented environment. On fight nights, that place was PACKED. And about the family atmosphere… um, yeah, boobies. So it doesn’t surprise me they’re closing shop.

Does the Jantzen Beach location have no employees currently or would everyone just be on half shifts? Most likely that was said with a very corporate fake smile and “good luck with that” was left unsaid.

  5. Actually,

The employees there aren’t offered transfers. They are being offered the option to apply for any open jobs at the Jantzen Beach location.

  6. Who actually went to Hooters when STARS was right next door?!? Did anybody see the stripper boxing?!? Gotta love it!

  8. Yep – Hooters really screwed the pooch in siting their Portland-area locations – across the street from Stars and Club 205?

No wonder they went out of business – their only customers were teenage boys with bad fake IDs who got turned away at the real strip clubs.

  9. The girls should have gotten this little thing called an education. Who cares that they all lost their jobs, Taco Bell is always hiring. I mean isnโ€™t that the level the girls are at? Donโ€™t let the tight shirts and short shorts throw you off. At the end of the day they are simply waitresses who couldnโ€™t make the cut as a strippers.

  10. Both this location and the one at Mall 205 have closed, and both locations were always busy and full of people. So the problem has to be bad management. Way to go, guys…
