Last year’s Burger Week brought Portland to its knees. Traffic on all city streets stood at full gridlock, as diners fought to reach the thirteen destination restaurants offering their special $5 creations. The state’s beef supply dwindled. People jumped from the rooftops, hoping to land at a table at Slow Bar, White Owl, Ate-oh-Ate, and the like. It was madness.

And we’re doing it again. With more participants.

This year we have TWENTY restaurants signed on. From August 11th-17th, you’ll enjoy full-sized, high-quality, inventiveโ€”nay, game-changingโ€”burgers, at prices straight out of history.

Pictured above is a prototype of the burger Nick Zukin’s Mi Mero Mole will offer at its Chinatown location. From Zukin: “Weโ€™re doing a chorizo patty with a bacon-wrapped chile relleno, guac, sour cream, and pickled onions.” He is not messing around.

  1. Will you actually be able to buy these burgers this year or will it be like last year’s bait and switch? I tried a number of times to buy these 5 dollar burgers but even early in the evening they were “sold out” but feel free to buy any of our regularly scheduled burgers for more than twice as much.

  2. Last year depended on where you were at, really. Victory Bar and Alberta St. Pub were the two hardest hit, if I recall. No surprise to see Victory Bar not part of it this year – I don’t think they really had the kitchen to meet demand.

I know I was able to walk right into Slow Burger with no problem, and I think I was able to get to somewhere else, but don’t recall off the top of my head.

Looks to be more participants this year, too. Hopefully that eases the crowd a bit. Some of these places already tend to be rather busy.

And I will demolish that chorizo burger.

  3. No bait & switch or conspiracy to sell you a higher-priced burger going on. Everyone got slammed last year and had a tough time keeping up with demand. That should hopefully be less of a problem this time but a dash of patience and understanding would be appreciated by all involved.

$5 burgers are a privilege, not a right.
