Ecotrust is holding a dumpling party this Thursday (under the rather ungainly title of Tour de Dumpling), offering an opportunity to try out all sorts of dumplings from around the world, such as gnudi (kind of similar to gnocchi), pierogi (a Slavic version) and momo (originally from Tibet). The dumplings, featuring a range of fresh, seasonal fillings, will be provided by a number of catering companies including Elephants Delicatessen, Simpactica, Food in Bloom and Chef Naoko.

Originally a dumpling was a small ball of steamed or boiled dough added to soups by peasants in Europe. There’s unlikely to be anything as rustic as that here, and many of the offerings will be what English speakers in Asia historically labeled as dumplings even though they are more akin to filled pasta. Whatever the correct terminology, they taste darn good.

There will be drinks from Le Merit Badge and Bunk Bar, with entertainment courtesy of the Ben Fowler Quartet. Tour de Dumpling, Ecotrust, 721 NW 9th, April 2, 6.30-8.30 pm, $20 (tickets available here)
