Franks-A-Lot, located in the parking lot of the Whole Foods at 28th and E. Burnside, is celebrating their 20th anniversary with a hot dog giveaway. On Monday, April 15th, from 2-3 PM, the chef-owner Margo Childs will hand over one free hot dog per person (no add-ons), no purchase required. Margo has been on the premises since 1993, and took ownership of the stand in 1996, so come join us in the queue and celebrate the staying power of this unflappably charming woman.

It fascinates me that this place has made it 20 years. I have never once felt inspired to eat a hot dog along that particular stretch of Burnside. But congrats to her!
The headline made me worry she was going out of business! I’m a vegetarian, but I stop by here every now and then for one of their veggie dogs. Margo Childs (I only knew her as “The Hot Dog Lady,” which she calls herself) seems like a great character, always cheerful and blasting punk rock and making handmade signs about her latest specials with colored markers. True classic Portland.
