This is an important New York Times story that every American should read: Those droughts from this summer are going to have very real consequences in the next few months.

Scorching heat and the worst drought in nearly a half-century are threatening to send food prices up, spooking consumers and leading to worries about global food costs.

On Wednesday, the government said it expected the record-breaking weather to drive up the price for groceries next year, including milk, beef, chicken and pork. The drought is now affecting 88 percent of the corn crop, a staple of processed foods and animal feed as well as the nation’s leading farm export.

Sounds like vegans who eat local, unprocessed foods are going to be hurt the least by all this.

If only you could eat smugness, then you wouldn’t even have to go to Vegan-mart to pick up your pine needles and fortified mud.

That’s some retarded, asshole logic. Huge shortages and price increases on products that depend on cheap corn (just about everything in most grocery stores) are going to put a massive demand on the few staple foods that aren’t, not to mention how this will fuck those countries who depend on our food exports and….oh…Paul Constant…got it.

  3. Those who think this is music to their ears can go f themselves. I am a vegetarian, but smart enough to realize that not everyone can afford specialty diets. Not even I. The poorest will be the most hurt by this, those who already can barely afford to eat.

The prices are already going up. A shopping trip yesterday showed me that, when I could not afford to buy my teen-age son hardly anything to snack on, and shopping for meals that I can stretch for days at a time (beans, rice, etc.)

So yeah….keep laughing at all the people that depend on these prices to feed their kids.
