Dog Shops, Mapped
One of the best things about hot dogs is how insanely easy they are to make. However, there are times when a backyard hot dog plucked plump and sizzling from your grill just isn’t going to do. There are times when a hot dog is required RIGHT FUCKIN NOW! Thankfully there are many places in town where your encased meat craving can be nearly instantaneously satisfied.

Know of any other spots to get your dog on? Contact me and I’ll add them.

Otto’s has been rated one of the countries best hot dogs. Don’t forget Edelweiss either!
roakes on lombard. the german places on sandy/100s? Did you add Flavour Spot on Mississippi/Fremont?
for the last 2 years i have put on an alleycat style bike race called “Le Tour de Franks” at the end of May/start of June. This year it was sponsored by Chrome Messenger Bags, Velocity USA, and Knog lights, along with a bunch of other stuff thrown in. It’s a stage race to and from local hot dog eateries and ending at a bbq. here’s a wrap-up of last year’s event(map/winners/sponsors):

I will get the 2010 maps/winners/trophy photo up soon.
Just recently, Converse ripped off the name and made a stupid little website.
Franks-a-lot needs to stop using red onion. I would go there much more if they just had the common sense to use chopped white onion. Oh, and if you’re reading this Frank, get those beans out of that chili. Seriously.
Did you put coney island on the list?
@miguelaron
I’ll be adding all of those suggestions, thanks for reminding me of Nick’s (duh).
also Altengartz, SW 10th & Alder
Mmmmm… Bratwurst!
That’s a hot dog right?
F*ck it. I don’t care. I just want one.
There’s a dog cart on SE 11th & Clay, in the lot with the bike repair shop where that guy got his gear stolen that one time. Dogs decent, bike service fantastic.
Carl’s Jr., which started as a hot dog stand, used to have good hot dogs. Presumably 7-11’s recent diversification into other heat-lamp food products precludes it from this list of fine encased meat-part purveyors.
Talk to the hot dog. He can read your mind.

I don’t recall the name, but the hot dog stand at Powell’s Books on W. Burnside is excellent. (the cart is by the Couch St. entrance)
Pretty much your basic cart dog, but the dogs are fat and juicy, the condiments are crisp and fresh, the buns are soft, warm, and yeasty, the prices are affordable, and the guy who owns the stand is really nice.
I’ve done the rounds at all the hot dog places in town a couple times now. There are two that are always above the rest: Superdog and Zach’s Shack. That said, our reuben dog at K&Z is pretty damned good (as is the bagel dog).
