Kinta, the Malaysian joint on SE Belmont, has closed up shop. These were some of the most friendly folks on the block, but to be honest, business has appeared very slow over the last year. It almost seemed inevitable that such a huge space, with so few customers, would eventually go to ground.
But here’s some good news: the proprietors of Kinta are planning to package and sell their soups at area grocery stores. This is particularly exciting because the soups were arguably what kept Kinta in business for so long. Options like the mee pelang were an excellent spicy elixir to combat cold winter nights.
I wish them the best of luck.

Their food was good, but they spent no money on advertising. That’s a tough area to open a restaurant, too much competition.
I agree w/ Graham — tasty but dead. I went there a couple of times and the service was always attentive and the food tasty, but being one party out of three in a place with twenty tables just doesn’t work!
I just hope they don’t do an exclusive distro. deal with with neighboring ($$$) grocery store Zupans… I need reasons to NOT go to that place!
I had pretty mixed experiences there. Some dishes were great (LOVE the assam soup), while others were poorly balanced or just plain boring. Still, I’ll miss having a good spot in that neighborhood for a bowl of hot, comforting winter soup full of vegetables.
