It’s been in the works for far too long with a steady, deafening buzz (from this publication amongst many others): Andy Ricker’s new NW eatery, Ping, opens officially tonight at 4pm.
If Ping turns out to be anything like Ricker’s Southeast Portland Thai wonderland, Pok Pok, then Portlanders should be in for a treat. My expectations are particularly high. I have been a fan of Pok Pok since it opened as a shack on Division street a couple years ago. I’m a huge fan of Pok Pok’s boar collar, and I have to say if there is anything like that on Ping’s “Asian drinking food” menu, I will be a happy fellow.
Look for a review in Last Supper a few months from now. In the meantime, go check it out and post your comments below.

Andy and Kurt had a few invite-only soft opening dinners last weekend. It’s just as good as Pok Pok, people. Freakin’ go!
White guy running a chinese restaurant, whats not to love? I guess I won’t have to drive out to PF Changs for my ethnic cuisine raped and stripped clean of everything that makes it different.
You haven’t been to Pok Pok, have you, Bobby?
a. sus scrofa ≠ sus domestica
b. “neck” is not a cut of meat
anything else you need help with, jake?
Yes, I’m a bad person for where I grew up. Carry on with the ad hominems.
To answer your question, taxonomists/butchers. Anything else?
