Dying to play Final Fantasy XIII? While Square Enix just won’t budge on that March 9, 2010 release date for the English version of the game, they have deigned to offer up the nearly five minute long trailer you see below.
I’ve never been a huge booster of the Final Fantasy series โ I prefer the more esoteric Shin Megami Tensei games if I must spend a few weeks with a Japanese-crafted roleplaying epic โ but damn if this clip doesn’t stir up something sticky sweet in the pleasure centers of my brain. From the snippets of in-game combat, the gorgeously rendered CG cutscenes and even the bizarrely complementary Leona Lewis song, it looks like Final Fantasy XIII is going to shock absolutely no one by being a massive, runaway success.
The only question left is just how much cash Final Fantasy XIII will bring in. Now that it’s being released on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, this thing could very well be the entertainment event of the year. Once all the dust settles, this game is going to have pulled down some ridiculous profit numbers. I don’t mean Grand Theft Auto IV numbers or even Twilight 2: Twi Harder numbers. No, I think once the dust settles Final Fantasy XIII will have brought in one and a half Avatars of profit for creator Square Enix.
Of course, in retaliation, James Cameron will take off and nuke the entire company from orbit while muttering cryptically, “It’s the only way to be sure.”

Is Hideo Kojima directing this game? God, I’m so sick of CGI cut-scenes.
I’m just treading water till the new Pokemon games come out.
Apparently the game is very pretty but very linear, more “interactive movie” than your average exploration-based RPG. Which is just fine by me. If I want an open world and don’t care about fancy graphics and voice acting I’ll go play FFVI or WoW or something.
The great part is that most of the cut-scenes I’ve seen so far look like they’re rendered in-game. Technology these days!
heh, lady bad luck.
The gameplay looks rad. That song was bugging me, though. It was mixed too loud over the dialog!
