If you’ve been wondering where I’ve been for most of this week, the answer is simple: Blizzard sent me an invite for the StarCraft 2 beta, and I’ve done nothing but immolate Zerg hordes and gun down holier-than-Space-Jesus Protoss jihadists for the last three days.

I haven’t eaten, I haven’t slept, I haven’t bathed. I’m entirely within the thrall of Blizzard’s latest, even before it’s been finished. Bafflingly, I’m intensely terrible at the game, but I can’t stop playing.
I’m not even sure that I’m capable of saying anything negative about it. Here, I’ll give it a shot:
StarCraft 2 is merely StarCraft with a shiny coat of paint and all the fancy accouterments one would expect from a Blizzard game circa 2010.
Dammit! I tried to sneer while typing that, but instead cartoon hearts began swirling around my head, and I ended up making out with my Logitech gaming mouse.
I’m fucking hopeless.

But seriously, we’ve been waiting a decade for this game, am I right? And is the closed beta everything we’ve been waiting for? Oh yes it is!
I didn’t even have a key until earlier today, when I posted on some blog claiming to have a ton of invites for free. I figured it was a scam, but posted a comment requesting an invite since I was hopeless and desitute. Lo and behold, three hours later, I actually had an invite. Go figure dude…

I don’t think I’ve ever been so offended.
I didn’t think it was possible to like this post any more than I already do. But then I opened a fresh tab and surfed to http://freefreewilly.blogspot.com and was lucky enough to wait 45 seconds for my free download of the free willy soundtrack. I gave it a listen while reading this post again, and lo and craphole, the post became even better!
At any rate, I, like everyone, have been waiting forever for this. And I’m excited!

Mostly Terran. My terribleness would only be magnified by the quirks of the Zerg and Protoss.

After about two days of playing the beta, I have to say it’s really amazing. Epic. All the adjectives you can possibly think
Terrans seem to have a bit of a stronger offensive force, which is a decent change from the turtle style they had in
Starcraft 1, siege tanks and such. Zerg seems a bit nerfed as well, which is always welcome. 🙂

Anyone else excited for the Starcraft expansion, Heart of the Swarm, coming out next year? They’ve already “teased” with the terran and zerg new units, and I’m waiting to see what the protoss unit is going to be. I’m hoping they do beta keys for HoTS like they did for wings of liberty!
