Say hello to the first trailer for Telltale Games’ upcoming adventure game based on Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead. Beloved comic book becomes hit TV series, so obviously someone was going to snap up the videogame rights sooner or later. Thus, this.
Based on that clip (and Telltale’s polarizing Jurassic Park game), I really have no idea whether to be excited for this or not. I want to like this thing — I’m a Kirkman fanboy — but I doubt Telltale has the brass balls to pull off the truly horrific violence and oppressively grim atmosphere that made the Walking Dead comic book such a cult hit.
Still, more zombies. Yay?
I’m certain that bidding for the right to produce official The Walking Dead sneakers (shamblers? shufflers? staggerers?) will soon commence.
The thing about The Walking Dead, though, is that a lot of it is about the characters and the drama around them instead of just killing a bunch of zombies. If this game is essentially a zombie shoot-em-up stitched together by cut scenes, then it’s clearly just a cash-in on the franchise.
