GOOD MORNING, PORTLAND!š
Get ready for anotherĀ impossibly sunny afternoon with the highs topping off at a perfect 75 degreesābut never you fear, gloom lovers! You'll get your daily dose of clouds for the rest of the week, and I HOPE YOU'RE HAPPY. (And I also hope you're happy with this NEWS.)
IN LOCAL NEWS:
⢠The big story of the weekend: Portland turned UP and OUT for the nationwide "No Kings" march and rally, producing one of the biggest crowds I've seen for a protest in the 25 years I've been here. The Portland crowd was estimated to be a whopping 50,000 peopleāand even if you don't include the millions who marched nationwideāthis made Trump's hilariously puny (andĀ squeaky) birthday party parade look sooooooo fucking embarrassing! (TL;DR version: Nobody likes him, everybody hates him, he should eat some worms.)
Thousands of people at the No Kings rally in Portland. Stay tuned to the @portlandmercury.com for more throughout the day.

⢠To show just how expansive Portland's "No Kings" march was, check out this video from Kevin Foster which shows the front of the parade on the Morrison Bridge, and the back of the parade allllll the way over there on the Hawthorne Bridge.

⢠As Portland's "No Kings" march came to an end on Saturday, roughly 500 demonstrators split off toĀ rally in front of the Portland ICE facility, where they were met by federal agents firing teargas, flashbangs, pepperballs, and more less lethal munitions. An unknown number of protesters were detained/arrested by the feds after an attempted breach into the ICE building, and three people were arrested by Portland Policeāwho declared the scene "a riot," and seem fine with arresting someone who throws a water bottle, but not the federal kidnappers who deport immigrants without due process. (Someone needs to get their priorities straight!) Check out the Mercury's minute-by-minute live reporting of the demonstration for more details.
Following today's massive "No Kings" march in Portland, federal agents have begun firing tear gas and less-lethal munitions at a crowd of roughly 500 people at the ICE facility on Macadam Avenue. Stay tuned to the Mercury for the latest.

⢠Portland Police continued their mental gymnastics this morning with this headline from their press release about last night's protest at the ICE facility: "PPBās Visible Presence in South Waterfront Results in Numerous Arrests." š¤ Basically four people were arrested last night for throwing shit, but it's fascinating how the cops are trying to convince everyone that supplying a "visible presence" (where people are being arrested) isn't aiding and abetting ICE. Such are the mysteries of life!
⢠Meanwhile Mayor Keith Wilson is sending out the message that if Trump attempts to send the National Guard or any other military troops into Portland to assist with (what has so far been non-existent) riots, it would be āunwarranted, unprecedented, and unconstitutional.ā He also added āIf we witness federal abuse following this incident or any other pretext, we will bring it to light, take legal action, and take the fight to federal courts, where we will prevail." If that's the case, then he should instruct Portland Police not to declare "riots" where there isn't oneābecause Fox News, MAGAts, and bots are already spreading 2020-style lies about Portland... and we know how all that worked out.Ā
⢠The Rowena Fire in The Dalles, Oregon, is still raging with only 24 percent of the fire being contained, according to officials. At least 56 homes and 91 other structures have been destroyed, though no one has lost their life due to the blaze so far.

IN NATIONAL/WORLD NEWS:
⢠Following a two-day manhunt, the suspect accused of assassinating a Minnesota lawmaker and shooting anotherĀ has been captured. The suspect, Vance Boelter, was said to have disguised himself as a police officer to gain access to the lawmakers, and had in his possession a list of 70 other potential targets including politicians, business leaders, and abortion providers. People who knew Boelter described him as (prepare for the shock of your life) a deeply religious conservative. A former Democratic house speaker, Rep. Melissa Hortmanāmurdered along with her husband at the age of 55āis being remembered for being deeply progressive but still willing to work with Republicans for the good of the state.
⢠Meanwhile Trump is ordering ICE agents to expand their cruel, illegal immigrant deportations in Democratic cities, falsely claiming these cities are using āIllegal Aliensā to ācheat in Elections, and grow the Welfare State," even while admitting the deportations are causing serious harm to certain industries, including hotels and hospitals.
ICE is on the verge of going broke and is already about $1 billion over budget.

⢠After four days of attacks, the conflict between Israel and Iran continue to widen, with Israel bombing cities (including hospitals and residential areas), and Iran targeting oil refineries and the country's power grid. Residents are fleeing the cities to escape the bombings.
The Louvre, the worldās most-visited museum, remained shuttered Monday ā not by war, not by terror, but by its own exhausted staff, who say the institution is crumbling from within.

⢠In case you missed it (and it would've been easy to do so), as millions of Americans marched in cities across the nation for "No Kings" day, Trump's $45 million birthday party parade was scarcely attended and by most accounts "underwhelming." And even better? Trump did not seem pleased at all. Happy birthday, Mr. President!
⢠And finally... here's the perfect comparison of "No Kings" marches and Trump's pathetic little tank parade.
@jkevinparker Look at the #NoKings Protestsāin hundreds of cities with millions of people!! Compared to the $45M vanity parade in DC. #Trump #MAGA #NoMAGA ⬠original sound - LIVE FROM NEW YORK
