The good news—
For one day this summer, the Portland Bridge Festival “will transform the center lanes of the Hawthorne Bridge into a public green space fit for a picnic of thousands.” It looks awesome.

The bad news— Thanks to BikePortland, I am now aware that this product actually exists:

The worst news—
This Upright Citizen’s Bridge video about BP spilling a cup of coffee is funny because it’s true. Too true.

  1. Not to be a buzz kill…

“This is a special ticketed event for up to 2,000 people”

    589,000 residents / 2,000 tickets = 0.34 % of the population

Looks like I will be eating under the bridge with the rest of those who can not get a job in this town.

  2. Yeah, I didn’t read all the ticketing info before I posted this. I thought you just had to make a $4 donation to the Salvation Army get a ticket, but nope: your $4 gets you a sticker and an entry into a raffle for the tickets.

That’s annoying. I would rather just pay a bit more, not get a sticker, and be assured that I could eat on the grassy bridge.

  3. The problem is, if we were to actually ticket this event for what it costs, then we would have to charge $50+ a ticket. We’d rather have a cross section of the city be able to attend than just a bunch of uptown swells. PLUS: each of the winners of the drawing can bring up to three pals! So in the end odds are pretty good (currently 100%)!

    😉
