A scientist describes himself as a “proud white supremacist” or a “proud anti-semite” or a “proud sexist.” What are the odds that Barack Obama would appoint that guy to “an elite scientific panel”? Nonexistent. But Obama just appointed Jonathan I. Katz—a man describes himself as a proud homophobe, calls gays and lesbians “sodomites,” and who claimed that gays intentionally infected the blood supply with HIV—to a panel. More at Americablog.

  1. What if this tool really is a key factor is stopping the flow of that disaster? Would it be worth it?

Oh, and to his failed argument, why choose to be a homophobe when heterosexuals did such a fine job of spreading syphilis all these many centuries? People are promiscuous so blame the gays? Hmm…can’t be THAT smart.

  2. Way to not mention that his position has -zero- to do with any LGBT issues. So only the few people that actually click the article link find that out. But why let that stand in the way of a fun inflammatory blog post?

And by the by, I don’t give a fuck if he’s the reanimated corpse of Joseph Goebbels. If he represents the best chance to prevent thousands of gallons of oil from spilling into the Gulf, put his bigoted ass on a boat and get him out there.

  3. Given the Supreme Court hoopla, I think “appoints” is a rather misleading word. More like “books a temp”. Nonetheless, there’s a lot of smart scientists and engineers out there. A bigot is, by definition, really shitty at teamwork and lacking in imagination.

If there were ever a problem requiring imaginative teamwork…

  4. maybe he’ll hire a team of rentboys to clean up the oil spill and then take them to Cancun afterwards to ‘carry his luggage’

  5. Anyone have a link to his “gays intentionally infected the blood supply with HIV” comment?

I’m not questioning that it was said, but I would really, REALLY love to see the context/see what sort of justification he offers for that leap of logic.

  6. As an aside, can I be against the guy for being a terrible damn scientist instead of his homophobic views?

“The human body was not designed to share hypodermic needles, it was not designed to be promiscuous, and it was not designed to engage in homosexual acts,” he apparently said, when it WAS in fact, designed to be promiscuous. While technically no being was ever designed to engage in homosexual acts — assuming a purely Darwinian view of natural life — all biological life has something like a 10% deviation toward homosexuality. Sheep, birds, insects, cows, velociraptors, everything. So with millions of years of homosexuality being a relatively common thing, it’s not as if homosexual acts are complete anathema to the human (or dog, or cat, or wildebeest, or fruit bat, or orangutan) body. Or, at least, no more anathema than things that evolution could never have prepared our body for, like taking medicines, or eating processed foods, or watching television, or driving a car, or, roughly, ANY of the things we do on a daily basis.

    His science kung-fu is weak.

  7. Nex, while I agree with you. You’re wrong. The human body wasn’t designed. Period. So he’s correct on that. Just saying.

  8. Obama is a bigot, why is this a surprise? He states himself he does not believe in gay marriage which for anyone under 30 or half-way progressive means the man is a bigot.
