I'm at least 30% Goth, and i've never heard of such a thing. Who says - the "World Goth Council"? I seriously doubt that such an organization exists. I thought it was just Tuesday.

@4, Bauhaus is probably the correct answer for any decade, although not my personal pick. The best "goth" bands weren't really goth, just labeled as such (see: The Cure, at least before they turned into a parody of themselves).
