Ok, you thought Portland was going to be a sleepy, inexpensive town for the rest of your life…. Not sure why one would consider that and completely ignore the other west coast cities booming market, but that’s another post…. Why not move? Moving is not the worst thing in the world. I did and feel great! Think it’s expensive here? Try saving up for a million dollar home that goes for 200k in PDX.. sorry another post….. Look, you’re already upset with what’s going on in the city you, love??? If so, don’t waste another minute of your life drowning in despair. I would have moved to Nashville or another up and coming young city if I was unable to purchase a home. Truthfully, I couldn’t afford it now so if I was still renting I’d move… but I’m not so I’m in…. Look, owning a home is the new 401k or retirement plan. Why rent if you can buy with very little down? Save up! Move! Enjoy life again! Who knows, you might even meet more friends, a new bar, a new music scene. Maybe even get laid a few times before you settle down with someone special. The one you would have never met if you stayed.

  1. I didn’t write this IA, but should have. I’m totally against the greed of the landlords and think they are scum. I really loved the way Portland used to be and sad it’s gone. But if you thought you could hide from the man here forever, you were a fool. I saw this shit coming from a mile away and always knew it was only a matter of time before the yuppi douchefest would show up and do what they did to Seattle. So I bought a house when the market hit bottom, the same time apartment vacancy hit 4%. Didn’t cost much more than a security deposit, first & last at the time. But if i wasn’t locked in here, there’s no way in hell i’d stay for this shit. Almost everything is gone and you want to hang on to what? At $2.50 per sq fr? I would just say fuck you, see ya later, it was fun while it lasted. The biggest mistake that most people continually make is thinking what is, will always be.
