The old Kmart location on NE 122nd has burned to the ground. Now there is well over an acre’s worth of land within the city limits, near a post office, restaurants (albeit fast food) a Winco grocery store and Costco nearby, and an established road network with bus service. What’s missing? AFFORDABLE HOUSING!! Here is a prime opportunity to build affordable housing and help reduce homelessness in our city. Let’s make this happen! Don’t let this opportunity slip away! AFFORDABLE HOUSING NOW!!

The lot is large enough to build apartment blocks with landscaping and park space, but otherwise low quality rental units steer the public subsidy into the pockets of absentee landlords. The lot is likely considered possible for housing. Good suggestion.
This is a great idea for reusing former retail space. Maybe a mix of rentals and houses – or tiny houses – for sale so it’s a community of long term neighbors and not just another series of apartment complexes owned by out of state corporations siphoning money away from Oregon.
This land is owned by a corporation who has leased it to another corporation who rents it to another who has subletted to another. And none of the companies are in oregon. And none of them care if we need housing or not. So I wouldn’t hold my breath.
