I didn't go somewhere yesterday because it would take me 1 hour 18 minutes and a transfer to go 4 miles in tigard. Tigard is a sidewalk-less wonder, so even if able to walk 4 miles one way and 4 miles back, I wouldn't. I used to love living in downtowns. Portland ruined that for me. I drove a stick-shift since I was 19. Portland ruined that for me. I took the bus and walked even when I had a vehicle before my 29-year-old 4-cylinder truck became too dangerous to drive and needed too many thousands of dollars in repair. Tigard ruined the walking for me. Trimet ruined the bus-riding for me. An hour and a half and two buses *and* walking to go 5 miles to a Parks and Rec gym! Going back 2.5 whole miles from Washington Square, the 78 sometimes stops at Tigard Transit Center, and says, "End of the line! Going back to Beaverton!" It only runs every half hour, every hour on weekends, and stops running (or dwindles down to hourly or less frequent) at 7 PM. That is before many events start, let alone end. If I wanted to walk in bike lanes next to ditches in the dark in Sidewalk-less Wonder Tigard, I wouldn't have a problem. Time to get a car, and move to a city with sidewalks, like every other city I've known. It might even have good public transportation.
