In honor of Mercury transportation month, I offer the following modest proposal
1) Abandon the I-5 bridge replacement project, it is a dinosaur that needs to die, and moving the traffic jam several miles down the freeway, in the eventual hope that the rest of it will be widened at an incalculable cost is a fantasy.
2) Reclaim the real estate through the city that I-5 and I-405 occupy, replace them with housing, and green space parks. This will not only make the city cooler and more livable but it will also increase the value of property on both sides of removed freeway.
3) Many people don’t want to live in an urban area, though they enjoy the amenities,
because of the noise, pollution, and danger, making the city less car centric would be a good first step towards a more livable city.
4) This is a bold plan, but looking forward it’s what we need to do to meet the economic and an ecological challenges we are facing. We are the logical place for this to happen, we have done it before.
Love and Peace—Anonymous
