Once there’s dirt that’s been dug up about a person’s past, there’s no turning back. Everyone, and all of society will turn on that person who has now become a despicable monster unworthy of any previous accolades that they once were held with such regard for. Most of the time too, the “people” didn’t know these “secrets” so they all glorified the person with such nobility and irreverence. Once upon a time, this person was put on pedestals with all their achievements, leadership qualities, pioneering accomplishments, revolutionary struggles, and courageous resistances. Now the dirt is dug up, and all that followed have unfollowed. We all need someone to look up to and we find them. The only difference with people being looked up to is whether they’re in the public eye or not because we can also look up to our basic “ordinary” neighbor. When the actual truth is, we all have some past with some dirt in it. Some dirt is very true, unforgivable. But we all make mistakes and stupid decisions. Most who are now dirty have tried to reform and seek retribution. I’ll say it, even “God” forgives, and a lot of people believe in redemption and second chances. The dirt diggers only want to slander the person now when without this new information, this person was so revered. So, should we turn on anyone so quickly when we admired them just seconds ago? When they are likely the same person they’ve always been minus the despicable act? And what is the “act” that is truly valid for dethroning someone? Because I could be living my life by not being a kind person to others, and I think that would make me a terrible person.
