Dear Portland Business Owners who always leave your OPEN signs lit or cardboard OPEN signs facing out in the window: stop it, just stop it. You are not open when you are not there and the business is not operating. A dark storefront and locked doors mean that you are closed (fun fact: closed = opposite of open). An open sign does not mean that, yeah, my stuff is still here, even though I’m never here and never sell anything. It does not mean that you might be open during operating hours. It fucking means, “I’m here now, and we are conducting business now.” Do you realize that your open sign ceases to mean anything when you never turn it off? If you’re that stupid, you shouldn’t be in business. Yes, we all forget things sometimes, but you do it all the time. Turn your stupid open sign off when you’re closed, OK?
