Sleater-Kinney sell out the Crystal Ballroom

Sleater-Kinney

Tuesday night's sold-out Sleater-Kinney show at the Crystal Ballroom had an interesting energy. The build-up for the reunion of a much-loved band, after a little fame and time, created a palpable feeling of expectation in the crowd. Expectant of magic, maybe, but for most of the people there, it was worth the wait—whether longtime fans or old friends, most everyone seemed to be in a blissful place of reliving a good story.

Despite the aggressive nature of Tuesday night's photo pit, I was thrilled to be shooting the band. They remain talented women that I respect for their influence and contribution to feminism in the music industry. Read what Alison Hallett had to say about the scene then and the feelings now.

More photos after the jump!

TheeSatisfaction, Seattle hip-hop duo and queens in their own right, opened the show. The extremely white crowd had no trouble getting on board with the content of their lyrics, but could have used a lesson in movement, particularly of the groove and booty variety.
