This is a friendly reminder that tomorrow night is your semi-regular opportunities to meet your Blogtown friends, neighbors, and nemeses. We’re convening at the Old Gold (2105 N Killingsworth) at 5:30 pm; all Blogtown commenters/readers/hangers-on are welcome to join us.

I haven’t been to the Old Gold yet and I’m super excited to check it out. For years I’ve been operating on the assumption that former Mercury Music Editor Ezra Caraeff’s wheelhouse was limited to pugs and Morrissey puns, which is why I’m a little flabbergasted by just how good his bar’s cocktail menu looks. A couple things caught my eye:

THE ANGIE $7 Bulleit Rye, fresh grated ginger, ginger beer, served on the rocks
(Rye! Because bourbon/ginger drinks are always too sweet!)

EL DIABLO $7 Cazadores Reposado Tequilla, crรจme de casis, Brew Dr. Lemon Ginger Cayenne Kombucha, fresh lime juice, a bit more cayenne, served tall
(If every cocktail had kombucha in it, I would drink every cocktail.)

OR alternately, we could play the “let’s order the most obscure drink we can think of and watch Ezra try to make it” game. That game sounds funny.

Anyway, these meetups are pretty good fun. They’re kind of like this.

See you there!

Alison Hallett served nobly as the Mercury's arts editor from 2008-2014. Her proud legacy lives on.

  1. According to your link, their cocktail menu is “Server not found.” What’s the point in going there if your server can’t be found?

  2. They make their Manhattan’s with bourbon.

But the Ryer whiskey/beer pairing they have is excellent. My bf had the El Diablo last time we went and I took a sip. I’ve been hoping for Kombucha mixed drinks for some time, and this was quite good.

  4. Do your dumbass trolls show up to these things? How awkward it must be when people like Alison or Sarah sit down to have drinks with these passive-aggressive eunichs…. I bet they all beg the Hump not to make them go, LOL.

  5. @ISpendAllDay – Actually they’re usually pretty fun for all except those who show up and are too afraid to talk to anyone.

That El Beiblo sounds crazy. I really like Cazadores. I’m having trouble imagining those other ingredients in it, though.

  6. @10, may I suggest the strategy I employed last time?

    Alcohol. Lots of alcohol!

Just kidding. But then again. I’m sure the Old Gods is too new to have had anyone throw up in the bathroom, yet. YOU COULD BE THE FIRST. ๐Ÿ˜€
