If memory serves, single-copy sales for the Oregonian are independent agents – not employees. Used to be two guys, Rocky Purkey had the East side, Mike Corrie had the West side. At the zenith they had 30+ vendors and 300 boxes all over town. It’s been downhill for the past 20+ years.
So that’ll be the end of single-copy sales.
Trivia: in 1992 Mike was shot twice by an 80 year old demented man who was tampering with newsbox. Mike got the gun away from him, and was able to tell the cops who did it before being carted away. Mike made a fully recovery.
Thank you Matt! We also broke the news of KGW’s morning weather replacement for Dave Salesky: Nick Allard from NWCN and KING 5 Seattle.
Oh, and we had the scoop on layoffs at KPTV as production of ‘Better’ moves. We’ve got news breaking out all over the place. And Blogtown readers, check us out later tonight for a story about Matt Davis.
And..AAAAANNND….they knew about my new writing gig first-ish too!
Happy dance to the impending death of print media.
Wait. People still buy the Oregonian?
Thanks, Kiala! I will gladly take credit for reading tweets all day and telling the people who have lives what they said.
Congratulations, Kiala, on your SF Weekly tech blogging stuff! That’s awesome!
