City Commissioner Dan Saltzman was the last to meet with Mayor Sam Adams this afternoon, taking 20 minutes after their meeting to make phone calls from his office before leaving by the back entrance on SW 5th.

“It’s my sense that he’ll let us know his decision on Monday,” he said. “He asked my advice, and my advice is for him to get back to his job.”

SALTZMAN: Supportive of Adams…

Asked whether Adams had given any indication about his decision, Saltzman said no. “He’s a master at keeping his cards close to his chest,” he said.

City Hall’s now “empty,” said Saltzman. So it’s time to go home.

  1. Ever get the feeling that the people who want him to resign now are the same ones who couldn’t say anything nice about him during the campaign?

    Just curious…

  2. bd,

I have the same exact feelings. They managed to be very loud and then got crushed in the election. I imagine that’s what’s going on now…they’re being very loud and outraged. By that I mean they comment on blogs a lot and when it comes down to it there really just aren’t that many of them.

  3. And the only ones who showed up for the “resign” protest were bible-thumpers and people who conflate the situation with “pedophilia.” There were like 2 people there smart enough for the TV stations and major media to bother interviewing. If you watch all the coverage, you’ll see the same woman: “Rhondine” something – over and over and over again. Yet in our warped media environment, she gets “equal time” with 500+ unique citizens.

If Sam resigns, the media will have stolen my vote and the election. Let’s not let it happen. Write to the media, write to Sam!

  4. I wish he wasn’t asking for advice. I wish he was saying, “Here is the decision I’m leaning towards. How do you think this would affect our city and our working relationship.” Not, “What do YOU think I should do?!”

  5. Newsflash !
Sam Adams is no longer Mayor of Portland.
He is now Dictator of Portland.

When asked his thoughts of this, An 18 year old man stated
“This is how it ought to be, Sam’s dictate good”

Enjoy the endorsements , Sam, because this story just killed your career.

Damn , WW, then Oregonian. What expose will Portland Mercury have? The one amateur reporter that could do it is crossing her arms and not telling!

This will all make a great straight-to-DVD movie in a few years.

  7. I never was particularly fond for Saltzman, I don’t exactly know why, he just seemed too “white collar” for me, but I’ve been really impressed with how he has handled this thing. And he is right, Sam needs to get back to work.

I had to look up Randy’s f***ing address last election to contribute to his campaign, and if I have to do that to Dan in a few years too, I’ll do it in an instant.

The “unofficially” poll of the 5 people I saw this evening that I asked about Sam: First of all, 2 didn’t vote for Sam, (they voted for Sho,) and one person didn’t vote at all. But anyways, 4 of them thought that, “18 and over” and everything was fine. The other said that it wasn’t the sex, it was the lying, and then asked me if I thought that a guy having sex with an 18 year old was appropriate. And I asked, what does that have to do with anything, and he admitted that it might have something to do with the sex too. (And then I pointed out that he had more to worry about his business partners sleeping with his daughters than anything else, and he said, no, one of them had “sweared”off 18 year olds”. To which I asked about the other one, and he was like, well, humm, uhmmm, well, and he didn’t have a good answer.)
