Portland Trail Blazers vs. Philadelphia 76ers
The Blazers play the Atlanta Hawks this Saturday and the San Antonio Spurs next Sunday, but this game has what the others donโt: Joel Embiid, whoโs worth the price of admission alone. The athletic 7-foot Cameroonian center for the Sixers is one of the most entertaining players in the league (and on social mediaโfollow @JoelEmbiid). The dude scores points, pulls down rebounds, and talks mad shit. Itโll be fun watching him go up against Jusef Nurkiฤ. DOUG BROWN

X, LP3 & the Tragedy
Few punk bands have influenced the genre more than X. The groupโs dynamism was thrust onto the Southern California scene by way of blistering live shows and the chemistry between John Doe and Exene Cervenka. Xโs 1980 debut, Los Angeles, is a touchstone of American rock โnโ roll, featuring tunes like โYour Phoneโs Off the Hook, But Youโre Not,โ โJohnny Hit and Run Paulene,โ plus a cover of the Doorsโ classic โSoul Kitchenโ (a nod to the recordโs producer, Doors organist Ray Manzarek). Since the band began to perform live again, theyโve established a new generation of fans, and have branched out from the lightning-fast three-chord attack of their early days. They even performed an entirely acoustic set at Pickathon 2014, though Doe admitted to the Mercury at the time that he wasnโt sure why anyone would want to see X unplugged. Regardless, theyโre back, theyโre plugged-in, and theyโre poised to set that bouncy Crystal Ballroom floor to new levels of springiness. RYAN J. PRADO

Haunted Summer, Gold Casio
Haunted Summer playshazy chamber-psych that unfolds in slo-mo, providing plenty of room for Bridgette Eliza Moody’s nostalgic croon. It’s a likeable sound, as evidenced by the inordinate number of press clippings the band has posted to its Tumblr. BEN SALMON

Haley Heynderickx
With her otherworldly presence, Haley Heynderickx’s music casts a long shadow. The gifted songwriter, vocalist, and guitar player mesmerizes onstage, letting space build between her chords, pillowing her distinctive, lilting vocals and letting the songs breathe and soar. She recalls Angel Olson, and was influenced early on by Nick Drake and Bob Dylan, learning bluegrass guitar after showing interest in the instrument. JENI WREN STOTTRUP
