For 50 years, Godzilla--otherwise known as the coolest motherfucker to ever grace the silver screen--has smashed cardboard buildings, slapped aside model helicopters, and incinerated entire miniature cities with his fiery breath. Shit, he even survived that Matthew Broderick remake! (Insert rimshot here.) But this week he'll be hitting Portland with the 50 Years of Godzilla Film Festival.

Boasting six Godzilla films, the Hollywood Theatre has three classics: 1965's Invasion of the Astro-Monsters (also known as Monster Zero) has aliens from Planet X using Godzilla to destroy Earth. Destroy All Monsters (1968) has Godzilla escaping from Monster Island, while 1971's Godzilla vs Hedorah (aka Godzilla vs The Smog Monster) pits a filthy pollution monster against the big green lizard!

Does it get any cooler, you ask? Hell yes! Try 2000's Godzilla vs. Megaguirus, wherein Godzilla kicks the asses of baby monsters and their huge monster mother! Or Giant Monsters All-Out Attack (2001), in which three other monsters try to protect Japan from a vengeful Godzilla, or Godzilla vs. Destroyah (1995), which has Godzilla growing even more radioactive! (And don't fret, Godzilla traditionalists--even these newer ones have Godzilla portrayed by some sweaty bastard in a rubber suit.)

I can tell what you're thinking. "It doesn't get any cooler than that, right? It can't!" Oh, but it can! Saturday has the premiere of the new Xbox and PlayStation 2 game, Godzilla: Save the Earth, with a multiplayer tournament (on the movie screen!) and a panel with the game's developers. Throw in the Halloween party/costume contest, Wednesday's birthday party (with cake and the chance to sign a card for Godzilla--which'll be sent to him care of Japan's Toho Studios), trivia contests, exhibits, and vendors, and you've got pretty much the most badass, cardboard building-smashin' film fest ever.
