Well, it's that time of year again. The air turns crisp, the leaves begin to fall, and all the goths, nerds, and metalheads start getting excited for the spookiest season of the year. To get things rolling, the H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival is hosting a weekend of films inspired by the grandfather of cosmic horror.

If you've ever been to the festival, you know that the short film reels are very hit or miss, but there are always a few diamonds in the rough that make sitting through the rest of the mediocrity worth it. The short that really stands out this year is AM1200, about a big-shot suit who attempts fraud, then skips town when the scam goes awry. He eventually finds himself at an abandoned radio station in the middle of the night, where powers beyond his control lead to—you guessed it—sheer madness.

In addition to the numerous film screenings, the festival boasts Q&A sessions with screenwriters and film crews, the Cthulhu Mall of horror-inspired goodies, and even a live music performance by the Darkest of the Hillside Thickets at Tony Starlight's on Saturday night.
